I thought of another book! If you enjoy history this might be of interest to you.

I have been meaning to post my top ten for awhile, but I can't make up my mind which to put in my top 10. I love a lot of the books already posted....particularly anything written by Steinbeck, Hemmingway, and Jane Austen. My favorite book would prolly have to be To Kill a Mockingbird. Although, I also love the Sword in the Stone because my dad suggested I read it one rainy day when I was a kid. I think that was the moment I knew that I loved to read. Anyway, it is impossible for me to compile a list of my 10 favorite novels.....too hard for me to choose, plus the list is ever changing. Instead, here is a list of some of my favorite and entertaining reads.....

In no particular order:

1. The Things They Carried - Tim O'Brien
2. Trinity - Leon Uris
3. Sword in the Stone - T. H. White
4. Animal Dreams - Barbara Kingsolver
5. Rebecca - Daphne Du Maurier
6. Handmaid's Tail - Margaret Atwood
7. The Secret History - Donna Tartt
8. A Winter's Tale - Mark Helprin
9. The Eight - Katherine Neville
10. The Time Traveler's Wife - Audrey Niffenegger

Oh oh, yes! The Handmaids Tale, very good book!

We may have to stop these lists because there are so many good books and not enough time to read them all and I'm a S L O W reader.

Is it weird of me to say that I even love holding books and libraries get me so excited that I can't even calm down enough to pick a book? So now you now how truly eccentric/crazy I am. Embarassed Confused Shocked Laughing

Frances,

I adore libraries. One of the greatest inventions ever. I work just 2 blocks from a public library. And just across the street from the library is a teeny tiny little sitting park with fountains. I love hiding out in there with a good book when I need to get away from it all.

Looks like many of us are bibliophiles!
When I was young, I read a book a day. Life, Reality TV and lists have slowed me down some but I HAVE TO read.
I am currently reading the last installment of Stephen King's, The Dark Tower series. It is King's Magnum Opus written over the last 25 years. It is inspired by the epic poem "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came" by Robert Browning. With so much time between each of the seven books, I always end up re-reading the previous book when a new one comes out.

Oh, PMQ!!! This is absolutely my favorite series from Stephen King! And, peeps thought the Harry Potter installments took a long time to come out ... thank goodness he finally started cranking out the remainder of the series! They are awesome!! Let me know how you think he wrapped it up!

Stephen King recently began working with the artists of Marvel comics and there are some new 'comic books' for the Dark Tower. The artwork is incredible ... you should check those out!!

Sushi, I am torn between reading fast to find out what happens or reading slow to savor the final moments with my Ka-tet Crying or Very sad
It will probably be the same with the Harry Potter series. I get so attached to characters; it is hard to let them go. Oh crap, I am the same with BB! Laughing
Long days and pleasant nights

Nope, not weird at all. Libraries are very exciting places.

Please tell what happened when you read Stephen King last.

If you only knew how much I hated to leave my job! I got to browse the antique book stacks, look up anything I wanted in the reference department, and picked out the new paperback SF's every Thursday, and snuck off to the little park behind the library for my lunches, so I could read in peace - in the staffroom, people WOULD start conversations!

I get bookstore gift certificates often from my family, for special occasions, and thereby hangs a tale... I can never choose and always have to add some cash to the total bill. I'm GREEDY for the scent of books, even old and grimy ones. Smile

I read a Stephen King years ago that he supposedly wrote for his kids. As I recall it was about a castle and a dragon and a hidden room? Does anyone have an recollection of that one and possibly know what the name was?

I read it about 30 yrs ago, so I don't remember much.
