|
Probably the hardest adjustment for me, when I started eating low carb, was the switch from Miracle Whip (which has sugar/carbs) to Hellman's Mayonnaise (which doesn't). I've made the adjustment, and now Miracle Whip tastes strange to me, but this recipe helped me in the "early days." If you want the taste of Miracle Whip, without the sugar, give this recipe a try. I think you'll like it.
Mayonnaise to Miracle Whip (Low Carb)
1 c. mayo
1/2 t. salt
1 pkt. Splenda
2 T. lemon juice
Combine and let it sit at room temperature 20 minutes or overnight in the fridge to blend the flavors. _________________ "Ain't no man can avoid being born average, but there ain't no man got to be common." ~ Baseball Hall-of-Famer Leroy "Satchel" Paige |

Ah-h-h, but Sydney, you don't give up butter when you eat low carb. In fact, butter and olive oil are encouraged, because both are better for you than margarine.
And, yes. Giving up Miracle Whip was one of the hardest things I've had to do. I used to love tuna salad made with Miracle Whip and sweet pickles or sweet pickle relish. Now, I make tuna salad with mayonnaise and dill pickles . . . and I've grown to love it just as much. In fact, I tried making it, recently, with sugar free sweet pickles (made with Splenda) and didn't like that at all. I like the sugar free pickles, otherwise. They just no longer taste good with tuna.
Of course, I've been eating low carb for four or five years, now, and my tastes have changed completely. _________________ "Ain't no man can avoid being born average, but there ain't no man got to be common." ~ Baseball Hall-of-Famer Leroy "Satchel" Paige |

It's so funny how people like different things. To me, Miracle Whip is nasty and artificial tasting. Give me Hellmann's Mayo, or homemade Mayo.. yummy. _________________ AABB

Miracle Whip is nasty, I have never brought it but had it over friends when I was younger.
Sydney, I could never give up butter. |

I've always thought it was funny how the 'world' seems to be divided into those who like Miracle Whip vs. those who like mayonnaise and those who like Coke vs. those who like Pepsi. What I've always wondered is if there's any relationship between the two. For example, do the folks who like mayonnaise also like Coke . . . or do they prefer Pepsi . . . and vice versa. Just one of those little things that makes inkydinkydoo go hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
As for me . . . I prefer mayo and Diet Rite or Diet Coke with Splenda. My kids prefer Miracle Whip and Pepsi (although not mixed together ). How about you? Feel like taking a little informal survey? _________________ "Ain't no man can avoid being born average, but there ain't no man got to be common." ~ Baseball Hall-of-Famer Leroy "Satchel" Paige |

LOL
Mayo over Miracle Whip
Coke over Pepsi
Velveeta over cheese whiz ( poor Velveeta gets a bad wrap, but it makes the best queso if you add the right stuff )
Unsalted butter over margarine or salted butter
Saccharine ( sweet and low) over splenda _________________ AABB

I agree with everything but the unsalted butter. I would still prefer salted butter to the unsalted or margarine.
The way to make Pepsi tolerable for me when they have it at restaurants is to use pleanty of lemon. If they don't have lemon, (self-service restaurants) I use a little Sierra Mist with the Pepsi. LOL
Guess everyone has their own preferences. _________________

I agree with the Velveeta vs. Cheese Whiz and the unsalted butter vs. margarine, but I gotta have Splenda. I don't like the taste of Sweet and Low.
Your mention of Velveeta (which I love in mac and cheese) reminded me of Spam, another one that gets what I think is a bad rap. It's funny how that happens to certain foods. _________________ "Ain't no man can avoid being born average, but there ain't no man got to be common." ~ Baseball Hall-of-Famer Leroy "Satchel" Paige |

Ah-h-h another difference. It's 2% milk for me . . . or these days, Hoods 2% reduced fat, with Splenda milk, which is lower in carbs. _________________ "Ain't no man can avoid being born average, but there ain't no man got to be common." ~ Baseball Hall-of-Famer Leroy "Satchel" Paige |

I'm so surprise the number of people that dislike Miracle Whip. When preparing a new dish and the recipe calls for mayo I will use mayo the first time, and if I make it again I'll try MW. I do have a couple of salad recipes that I would only use mayo.
Miracle Whip over Mayo
Coke over Pepsi
Velveeta over Cheese Whiz
Butter over margarine
Splenda over saccharine _________________

My daughter gave me this site to look at before I chose what sweetener to use.
http://www.foodanddiet.com/NewFiles/splenda-story-list-7.html
It mentions folks that have trouble since using Splenda. They have had hair loss, headaches, joint pain and other maladies they did NOT have before using Spenda. _________________

I am late, but,
Mayo vs MW
Diet coke vs Pepsi
I cant believe its not butter.
Splenda vs sweet in low
I love albacore tuna w/mayo and dill pickles, celery, onion, salt and pepper. And because I like crunch and am trying to only eat bread a few times I will eat tuna salad with Trisquit or whole wheat crackers..
YUM! |

It's never too late to weigh in with an opinion, around here, Pimp! Your tuna salad sounds good! Since I don't eat bread, I usually take pieces of lettuce and wrap my tuna in that before popping it in my mouth. Instead of turkey and Swiss sandwiches, I'll lay out a piece of turkey with a piece of Swiss on top, add a squirt of mustard, roll it up (like a cigar), and . . . voila! Lunch is served! Or, it's wrapped in Saran Wrap and carried off to work.
I do love Trisquit and whole wheat crackers, but I just hate giving up a carb (or 19) for a cracker. I guess you could say I'm stingy with my carbs. _________________ "Ain't no man can avoid being born average, but there ain't no man got to be common." ~ Baseball Hall-of-Famer Leroy "Satchel" Paige |
