Have you ever had a Monte Cristo? It's another recipe that's good for breakfast, and my kids just gobble them down. It's basically a ham and cheese sandwich dunked and grilled like French toast. Yum yum!

Monte Cristo's

Thinly sliced ham
Sliced Swiss cheese
Bread
Eggs
Milk
Margarine or butter (for frying)
Maple syrup

Make ham sandwiches to your liking using the ham and Swiss cheese. Mix up eggs and milk as for French toast. Melt margarine in large skillet. Dunk the sandwiches into the egg mixture, making sure both sides are soaked. Fry in skillet or on griddle just as you would French toast. Serve topped with warmed maple syrup. Y-u-m-m-m!

There was a really small little hole in the wall dive I used to eat lunch at many eons ago that had Monte Cristo's on the menu. They also had a variation with thinly sliced turkey instead of ham and it was so incredible. I like mine with a mixture of Dijon mustard and mayo, instead of the maple syrup or powdered sugar.

Where do you live, Inky? I'm going to have my hubby concentrate his job search near you instead of Minnesota and Wisconsin. Razz Shocked Very Happy Very Happy

Oooh, and then we can take trips together up to Canada and visit Sydney!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dream a lot. Embarassed
