So, while i'm on tv withdrawl i'm gonna need some movies to watch. Anybody have any recommendations?
I just watched Knocked Up with Katherine Heigl and it was pretty good. I didn't expect much from it, but i ended up laughing and thinking it was sweet little romantic comedy. |

I'm going to toss out my faves for boring no TV days -any of the more recent versions of any of the Jane Austen books. The latest Pride and Prejudice is lovely.
Do you want light or heavy? I also saw another good one, Blood Diamonds I think it was called, with Leonardo DiCaprio, but it is serious and somewhat sad.. Here's a review:

But, I also see that Shrek 3 is coming out, that's a good one for sheer escapism! _________________ "One kind word can warm three winter months." ~ Japanese proverb ~

Thanks, Ruthie! I'll have to keep those in mind. I seem to need the light movies anymore, but i do appreciate a good 'heavy' movie.
I was considering trying Netflix for a while. |

A great movie is "becoming Jane"
The story of Jane Austin! What a strong woman she was...
And, I love Pride and Prejudice.......
I watched Fracture last night, thanks to Fame's recommendation...
GREAT movie.
Anthony Hopkins plays "bad" very well. |

Nickel, I don't watch too many movies, hard to keep me still for that long Anyway, my husband watches many, many movies. Although most of the ones he watches are War and Cops & Robber movies, one that he said was good was The Pursuit of Happyness with Will & Jayden Smith. He said that Jayden was a very good little actor. You may need your tissues, however, cause I saw him tearing up It's a true story based on Chris Gardner. I saw him on Oprah and it's really something what he went through making it to the top. I really need to watch it. I got the book last Xmas as a gift and I still haven't read it
Just an FYI regarding Netflix, my girlfriend joined but she said too many were coming to her all scratched up and damaged. Although they were excellent in taking them back and sending new ones, she said it became a hassle. Maybe others have not had a bad experience with it. She did say that their service is excellent. |

I loved "Little Miss Sunshine" and "Borat"! Gads, I laughed so hard (Borat).
Nickel--I don't know if it's still airing but there was a mini-series on HBO called, "Five Days" that was excellent. I highly recommend this mini-series.

| Has anyone seen A Mighty Heart and if so, what did you think of it? I want to see this movie, but I keep forgetting to rent it. It is such a sad story, so I need to be in the right frame of mind for it. |

We have several TV channels that are supposed to have newer movies on, and several old movie channels, on TV, and I probably watch more of the oldies but goodies than the new ones, but my son has got me several great ones that I saw reviews about - he downloaded them! Shh, I don't think you're supposed to.
Anyway, one that I REALLY liked was Premonition, with Sandra Bullock. She's very good in it, but I think she's good in most of her roles.
Another one was Children of Men, an apocalyptic film about a future with no children, very gripping and very human too, despite being SF.
Then there was 28 Weeks Later, the sequel to 28 Days Later, but much darker in concept.
Sunshine, another SF about a small team sent in a ship to try to regenerate the sun, in a future where the earth is turning into a ball of ice, to enable humanity to survive.
I'm an SF fan, and got wind of these from my English paper, but they are good, not just hardware and fighting, but about people, first of all, as the best SF always is.
(I'm still waiting for 300, that film about the ancient Greeks!) _________________ "One kind word can warm three winter months." ~ Japanese proverb ~

After posting all those SF movies, I kept my eye open and here are a couple of other movies that you might enjoy.
I've seen both and liked them.
One is SNOW CAKE with Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman, filmed in Canada apparently, for the snow. It's sad and sweet at the same time.
The other one is Memoirs of a Geisha, although you might have seen it since it's not so new. I loved this one, it's so atmospheric, and redolent of the time, and the actors are excellent, plus, it's a great love story. _________________ "One kind word can warm three winter months." ~ Japanese proverb ~
